James B. Weaver Jr., president of hardware store

James B. Weaver Jr., 81, president of W.T. Weaver & Sons hardware store in Georgetown, died April 24 at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

He had complications from kidney cancer, said his daughter Joan Inglesby.

Mr. Weaver, a McLean resident, became president of the fourth-generation family-owned business in 1981. The company, founded by his grandfather Walter T. Weaver, has had the same location on Wisconsin Avenue since 1889. The store specializes in ornamental hardware and bathroom fixtures for residential and commercial projects.

James Bryce Weaver Jr. was an Arlington County native and a 1950 graduate of Washington-Lee High School. As a teenager, he worked as a photographer at the old Washington Times-Herald, and he was an Army photographer during the Korean War.

Mr. Weaver was a past board member of the old National Orthopedic Hospital in Arlington. He was also a member of what is now the Georgetown Business Association and a founder of the organization’s annual parade.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Margaret Miller Weaver of McLean; four children, Joan Inglesby, James B. Weaver III and Michael Weaver, all of McLean, and Peggy Ann Weaver Forbes of Leesburg; a brother; and 11 grandchildren.
